  • CHOCOLATE TRADE FAIR: SALON PASSION CHOCOLAT

    Posted by

Uh oh. This could be dangerous. Fans of this sinfully sweet, creamy cocoa delight — you’ve been warned. In fact, to avoid tempting you further, perhaps I should just stop right here.

Oh well, too bad. I can’t resist sharing this with you. If you love chocolate, don’t miss out on this amazing epicurean food fair. It takes place the weekend of Nov. 20-22 in Old Montreal and it’s called, Le Salon passion chocolat & cie.

If you love chocolate, don’t miss out on this amazing epicurean food fair. It takes place the weekend of Nov. 20-22 in Old Montreal and it’s called, Le Salon passion chocolat & cie.

This chocolate fair is always a great opportunity for me to meet chocolate makers, check out their latest creations, and talk to them about their craft. Many chocolate makers will be giving away free samples of their wares. There will be 40 exhibitors in all, but since many of them have shops outside the Montreal area, you’ll have a special chance to taste homemade chocolates from all over Quebec. However, you don’t have to travel all over the province this weekend — at the Salon passion chocolat, you can sample the huge range of chocolates available all in one spot. Like touring the wine route, you can do a ‘chocolate tour’ of Quebec, right in the Marché Bonsecours.

For the fifth edition, the Salon will be focusing on the theme, “Chocolate and Spirits” and will be featuring chocolate paired with various alcoholic beverages from different Quebec producers.

In addition to wandering around browsing the stands, there are also two other special activities to watch out for. First of all, there will be a Chocolate Dinner (diner du cacao) to be held on Friday, November 20, 2009. Not only will you be able to indulge in a 4-course ‘chocolate inspired’ meal, but the meal will also include wine-tasting. What’s more, the food will be prepared by chef Eric Gonzalez, from one of my favourite Montreal restaurants, Laloux. In addition, there will also be a ‘Chocolate Hat Parade and Competition’ with the participation of special guest, Bob Blumer, from the TV show, Glutton for Punishment from the Food Network.

The chocolate fair is being held at the Marché Bonsecours, right in the heart of Old Montreal. Once a former public market, the Marché Bonsecours is open all year round, and features beautiful jewellery, clothes, and accessories made by Quebec designers. If you get hungry for something else besides chocolate, there are some restaurants in the market as well.
