I’ve known for a long time that Bronte is one of Montreal’s best fine dining restaurants. Chef Joe Mercuri is a master when it comes to creating unusal fusions of textures and flavours. But when I finally went to eat there (a treat for my birthday!), I was astonished to meet a local couple that has eaten there more than a 100 times.
I realized right away that anything I had to say about Bronte would pale in comparison to their expertise on the topic. So here’s the scoop:

Mylène Rouleau and Stéphane Perrault are dedicated foodies. Although they live an hour out of the city, they regularly drive in to indulge in Montreal’s culinary scene. And according to their mental tally, they’ve been going to Bronte about once every two weeks since 2004. That’s approximately 100 meals – each!
What Mylène and Stéphane appreciate most about Bronte’s cuisine is the freshness of the products and the fact that Mercuri knows how to flavour his dishes without adding fat. Mylène recommends the fresh herb and ricotta ravioli with oxtail and wild mushroom ragout, while Stephane suggests the 5-course tasting menu (he points out that it’s a good compromise, allowing you to discover the best of Bronte without the heaviness that comes with the 7-course meal).
Despite their obvious expertise of the menu, I had to disregard Stéphane’s advice and go for the 7-course option. Self-control is really not my strong point. And it was so worth it! I’ve created a slideshow of the feast, but I have to mention that the princess scallops and the halibut were particularly amazing.

The food culture in Montréal is really unique. You can eat well at reasonable prices anywhere in town. Good food is really accessible here, and the quality of our local produce is outstanding. We’ve got that great French cooking heritage, but we put a laid-back spin on it. Plus, it’s about knowing that even if it’s minus 30 degrees outside, you can step out to your favourite local bistro and it will be full of people.
