  • MONTREAL COOKING: CLASSES AT LA GUILDE CULINAIRE

    Posted by

Let’s face it, food is one of the best aspects of almost any vacation. And what better way to discover local foods than taking a cooking class? It’s a little more original than a bus tour! You learn something new, meet people and jump straight into the local food culture. Plus, you get new recipes to bring home.

I thought the idea sounded like so much fun I invited my fellow Montreal insiders to learn how to cook with me at La Guilde Culinaire, a great new cooking school and boutique.

While this culinary arts school offers all kinds of different cooking classes – from hors-d’oeuvres to Thai cuisine to frozen desserts – I’m willing to bet that visitors would be most interested in traditional Quebec dishes. You’ll learn to prepare traditional dishes like tourtière (meat pie), pea soup, poutine and pork loin laced with maple syrup.

As you can see in the video, classes are meant to be fun and the staff is really professional. Our chef, Nabil, proved himself patient and informative, without ever being condescending, which we really appreciated. Eating is easy. Cooking, on the other hand, just looks easy! But we had a great time cooking, eating and drinking together.

You can register for Quebec cooking classes by reserving through Visites de Montréal . For all other classes, you can contact the Guilde Culinaire directly. Group bookings are also an option. Classes last about 3.5 hours and cost $125 (includes two glasses of wine).
