WHERE TO TRY MAPLE IN MONTREAL

Hey travelers, surely you’ve heard that maple is the classic Canadian treat. In addition to drizzling the syrup on our pancakes, we eat maple candies, cookies, chocolates – even unexpected twists, like maple whiskey and maple salad dressing.

So, where’s the best place to try this delicacy while in Montréal?

Much to my surprise, the best place around town for maple treats is Canadian Maple Delights, a little shop in the heart of Old Montréal. I initially suspected it might be nothing more than a tourist trap, but boy, was I wrong!

Canadian Maple Delights offers all kinds of homemade products, including pastries, ice cream and their bestselling shortbread cookies with maple frosting. They also stock all kinds of bottled products, so that you can take some of the goodness home. And, for those of you who shy away from intensely sweet desserts, there’s my personal favourite, the maple latté, made with just the right amount of the good stuff. Believe me, it’s worth stopping in just for that.

Finally, once your stomach is full of treats, you can squeeze in a little extra maple – intellectually. They’ve got a neat museum in the basement, which tells you all about the process of maple extraction.
