  • KINK MONTREAL ::: AN INTRODUCTION

    Posted by

Montreal is a sin city. People travel from across North America because of our laissez-faire cultural attitude that permits (and encourages) all sorts of liberal behaviour.

In Montreal, there are vibrant Kink, BDSM and Fetish communities, and multiple ways to get involved.

I’ll get you started…One strategy is a stroll through Montreal’s gay village (St. Catherine’s Street between St. Hubert and Papineau) while keeping your eyes peeled for posters and flyers that advertise kinky events. This approach is good in the sense that many events won’t necessarily be searchable on Google. There are weekly parties that beg for discovery.

If you do decide to take the “street approach,” make sure you stop into PRIAPE, which is Montreal’s premiere gay boutique (for toys, lube, leather and more). The boys at the counter will most definitely have tips on what’s happening during your stay. Or log into priape chat to connect with those who share your interests and to find some fun before you even get here.

Saunas are always a reliable favorite for “fun” times. The village has numerous places where you can sweat it out. Oasis Sauna is the “biggest and most acknowledged sauna in Montreal” (I quote from the website). Another popular choice is Le 456 which has its own maze – literally, there is a maze where you are encouraged to get lost and then to find something sinful. Check out this full list of saunas in Montreal.

Club Festish is a Montreal-based organization providing a great starting point for events relating to all aspects of BDSM, Fetish & Kink. They have a space called Loft du Château and consider themselves “pansexual” as opposed to “gay.” But, heck, inclusiveness is good.

And finally a couple of quick leads:

    • Tunnel Bar (1296 Amherst Street) – a “Dark Room” in the style of many European bars.
    • L’Aigle Noir (1315 St. Catherine Street East)– a bar for those with a passion for leather.
    • DOM MS Academy – a website for those with BDSM tendencies. Check for events. Email questions.

As always, if you have thoughts or questions, feel free to leave a comment or to send me a message on Facebook. If I don’t have the answer, I’ll find someone who does!

That morning we packed our bags and sought out crepes for breakfast before heading to the station. I cried while packing because I didn't want to leave - the four days we had spent in the city had been perfect. We decided to take one last stroll while waiting for our train. We walked out to the street only to discover it was closed off for the Pride Parade! I took a few minutes to snap some shots of everyone waiting for the parade to begin. I really needed to get out of Toronto at that time, to reflect, and to surround myself with new stimuli. It was very cold during the visit, but I spent a lot of time walking around anyway, taking photos, going to galleries, and visiting restaurants with old friends. This shot is on Sherbrooke, just west of the Main. I've posted this before, in a flickr pool called "It can't be more Montreal than this". I like this image because it looks like it's very cold out, and yet there are people moving about in what I think is one of the country's most charming cities.
