  • A SYMPHONIC VACATION

    Posted by

Sometimes a girl needs a getaway, and sometimes she needs a getaway with culture.  If you are this girl, then I’ve got a great recommendation for you! On your Montreal trip, check out the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

Keep reading to meet the man who’s got the power to make sweet harmony with the flick of his wand.
Kent Nagano is probably one of Montreal’s most charming, humble and talented personalities. For three amazing years, Nagano has been the music director of the OSM, also known as the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

As he personally invites you to experience an OSM concert, Nagano says:

“Come with your expectations and with your curiosity, your need to be entertained as well as with the hope of making new discoveries and experience unforgettable events. We, the musicians and I, will provide you with beautiful music for your enjoyment.”

And beautiful music it is! The roots of the OSM repertoire are to be found in French music and culture. Yet for the 2009-2010 season, the OSM is enlarging their repertoire, and offering us the symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven.

“Beethoven’s music is filled with the ideas of freedom, of self-determination for individuals and people, all the while remaining conscious of human suffering,” says Nagano.

Honestly, a good listen to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata is enough to put me in the mood. Soooo relaxing! So check out the BEETHOVEN SERIES AT THE OSM.
For the holidays, I strongly recommend the CHRISTMAS SING ALONG with the OSM and Marie-Josée Lord. It’s happening on December 16 at the Notre-Dame Basilica, one of Montreal’s most praised spiritual gems. I’m actually bringing my mom to this….but don’t tell her.
As for the rest of the concerts, they are plentiful and quite frankly…it’s difficult to choose from! A look at the CALENDAR should help you pick! Whether it’s the piano concerto, violinist Corinne Chapelle, or the stunning Mysteries of Japan, you will not be disappointed!
