Cinemania: French Movies with English Subtitles

Cinemania
In Montreal, many people are into learning about other cultures. Movie lovers are no exception. For English speakers interested in French cinema, we have just the festival for you. CINEMANIA features French films shown with English subtitles. It’s been around for 15 years and has played host to such internationally acclaimed artists as Juliette Binoche, Isabelle Huppert, Patrice Lecomte, Emmanuelle Béart, and Bertrand Tavernier. To celebrate their 15th anniversary, they’ve selected some of the best movies made in French over the past year, and have invited one of the world’s most famous directors and provocateurs of the film world as a special guest. Read the full story to find out how you can catch the Canadian premiere of Costa-Gavras’ latest film and check out his master class on filmmaking and the creative process.

This year, from November 5 to 15, Cinemania will be screening a great selection of French films, including 15 North American and five Canadian premieres, at the Cinéma Impérial on Bleury Street, just around the corner from Place des Arts. The full program includes Emmanuel Mouret’s Fais-moi plaisir ! (you must see the work of this young, talented French filmmaker, whose previous releases include Changement d’adresse and Un baiser s’il vous plaît), Jan Kounen’s Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, Pierre Jolivet’s La très très grande enterprise, as well as Radu Mihaileanu’s Le concert.

This year, there will be an extra-special bonus on the program. In addition to featuring films by the famous provocateur and legendary director, Costa-Gavras, he will also be giving a master class on the creative process and his working methods as a filmmaker. The director of Missing, State of Siege, and The Confession will be back in the spotlight with the Canadian premiere of his latest film, Eden à l’Ouest (Eden Is West). Cinemania will also be screening a restored version of the film, Z, his masterpiece about oppression and resistance a full 40 years after the initial release. Check out CINEMANIA’S WEBSITE for full details, including schedules and ticket info.
