Hey Lovers!

Found that special guy? Met the woman of your dreams? Thinking about professing your love? But wait, maybe Proposition 8 has got you down? Did you know that same-sex marriage has been legally recognized in Canada since July 2005, and within that first year, 12,000 couples were married here?

Couples are flocking from the USA, and even other regions in Canada, because Montréal is the ultimate North American romantic destination to get hitched.

That’s exactly what Ashley and Jen are doing. These two gals live in Napa Valley (CA), and are in the midst of planning an Autumn wedding.

I chatted with Ashley about the big occasion.

Why are you choosing Montréal to get married?

“Even though we live now in California, we knew from the day we met that we would get married in Montréal! The city is beautiful; the streets are full of diversity and culture!

“Another important reason is that we have the RIGHT to marry in Quebec! Sadly as soon as we fly across the border our marriage does not [legally] mean anything… but it will to us!”

How is the process going?

“Even though a few places were honest with me and let me know that we would be their first gay wedding, everyone for the most part has been sweet and provided me with the information I needed.”

What recommendations do you have for others who want to get married in Montréal?

“I would suggest taking a quick trip for a weekend, to see what areas of Montréal you fall in love with! I promise you will fall in love with it multiple times!”
