Published on October 1st, 2009 – While Montréalers are renowned for their open-mindedness and exuberant joie de vivre, they are equally as known for their fervent love of hockey, no matter their age, background or sexual orientation. From this passion stemmed, nearly 20 years ago, the city’s first gay hockey league, Les Dragons de Montréal.
And it’s with a firm intention of winning that they will host the inaugural 2009 Eastern Canada Cup Hockey Tournament this upcoming Thanksgiving/Columbus Day weekend, welcoming over 15 teams from Montréal, Toronto, New York and Albany as well as numerous players from the Québec Major Junior hockey league.
Be prepared for great fakes, spectacular breakaways and hard cross-checks -in other words, some good ol’ hockey- in three divisions: competitive, recreational and developmental. There will also be a closing banquet to honour the winning teams and star players of each team.
So are you ready to cheer on your team? Be prepared: there’s likely to be as much action in the stands as there is on the ice!
