September 30, 2011 – In this city of perpetual parties, some Montréal queers figure, why work at work when you can party at partying?
Tyler and Sally are two twiggy boys who’ve been at it with their smash Gaybash. Next “two” do’s are *WALDO’S SHAMELESS NIGHT OUT* on October 8 at The Torn Curtain and a Halloween party at Cherry Night Club on October 29. Join their FB group for invites to more.
Every third Thursday at Katacömbes, POMPe Thursdays gushes electro, indie, new wave, punk and pop (next one on October 20). Check out organizers The Heart is a Pump for other out-there productions, such as Cabaret Faux Pas, a party to raise funds toward a queer events/arts space in Montréal (date to be determined).
The grande dame of queer culture, Mim, has been stirring up travestine trouble for a very long time. Mimproductions’ most famous party is the near-monthly MEOW MIX at Sala Rossa, where queens of a different animal order (a “queen” is a female cat, dontcha know) and their tommiecat buddies purr to the vibes of indie queer culture. Look for the legendary Dukes of Drags’ dragstravaganza next February and EDGY MEOW – the big roar of the Edgy Women festival – in March.
The new Royal Phoenix Bar in Mile End puts on live music and performances such as the Royal Riot monthly comedy night. THE hotspot, in or outside the Village.
L’Amour à 3™ brings the boys MEC PLUS ULTRA twice a month, usually at the Belmont, as a place where it’s “easier to meet people” (interpret as you see fit). Show’n’dance Faggity Ass Fridays are also immensely popular, with themes like Get Laid and Animal Kingdom (Cabaret Playhouse). And look for Qteam’s 5th Glamarchist Lookfair fundraiser next May, touted as one of the best rad queer parties of the year.
The granddaddy party organizer of them all, BBCM, is stronger than ever, with its famous Black & Blue at the Olympic Stadium, October 9, and more parties in various locations throughout the city during the year.
Have a queer old time!
