August 1, 2011 – Is it a bar? nightclub? bistro? patio? Cool venue for live art, music, and video? It’s all that and more – the Royal Phoenix Bar is Mile End’s first and foremost LGBT hotspot. Located on the corner of Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Bernard Street, this festive hang-out parties on from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., seven days a week, complete with La Cantine Royale (kitchen), stage, patio, and events for all.
Owner Val Desjardins and crew revamped the defunct Klinik in the blink of an eye (well, in one short month, actually), transforming the locale into one very cool watering hole outside the Village where diversity reigns supreme – the crowd, the music, the décor, the art, the events, the ambiance… LGBT it may be, but exclusive it is not. The Royal Phoenix is for everyone, united by art, the love of art, and the love of creative expression.
Gay Bash, Queer Slowdance, Roller Derby Dance Party and Hipster Karaoke are but a few of the diverse – what else? – activities going down at the Royal Phoenix of late. Throw in a variety of projections, rock nights, DJs, bands, off-site festival events, etc. and you’ve got an eclectic events calendar worthy of the venue’s open atmosphere.
For openness towards diversity, whatever it may be, and a really great time, check out the Royal Phoenix Bar at 5788 boulevard Saint-Laurent.
