August 31, 2011 – There are people out there who watch the world in which we live, and then, through film, let the rest of us in on what they see, hear, and think. The people at the Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) are onto these artists, whether emerging or seasoned, and, for the 40th year, from October 12 to 23, offer filmgoers the chance to track new trends in cinema, new media, and, in particular, in independent film and digital creation.

A launch pad for some of the industry’s greatest names, including Wim Wenders, Peter Greenaway, and Atom Egoyan, the FNC has consistently offered audiences a diverse program focused on excellence, originality, and innovation. Film enthusiasts from around the world come to Montréal to sample the latest in high-tech, the cutting-edges of creativity, and the passion that one city has for moving pictures.

The FNC opens with Valérie Donzelli’s La guerre est declarée (Declaration of War) and closes with Philippe Falardeau’s Monsieur Lazhar. These and other exceptional screenings will be presented in state-of-the-art venues across the city, making this year’s FNC a truly delightful 40th anniversary celebration!
