Published on November 2, 2009 – Entering Old Montréal’s Extravaganza is a bit like Hansel and Gretel coming upon the infamous candy cottage:  once you see it, you just want to taste everything…but the beauty of this Extravaganza is that you can, without even gaining a pound!

From the beginning of December, Old Montréal turns festive : Christmas trees decorated by celebrities – comedians, master chefs, fashion designers, musicians or TV and film stars – spring up as if by magic in the heart of the neighborhood; enchanted sleigh rides merrily glide through town, accented by the clip-clop of horses’ hooves upon the cobblestones; the TELUS Fire on Ice evenings heat up the wintry night sky with their bursts of festive light as the melodious song of outdoor choirs ring out and fill Place Jacques Cartier with holiday spirit. Movie-lovers huddle together under cozy blankets, hot chocolate in hand, to enjoy outdoor film screenings throughout the holidays.

And this Extravaganza offers just as many amazing gifts to discover indoors! From the Montréal Science Centre to Pointe-à-Callière, museum of history and archaeology, to the Marché Bonsecours, the Château Ramezay Museum and even the Montréal World Trade Centre, activities such as exhibitions, story telling, guided visits as well as culinary workshops abound. Wrap it all up with the brilliant Lighting Plan that highlights the natural beauty of Old Montréal’s architectural heritage and you will understand why the event is aptly named “Old Montréal’s Extravaganza”!  And don’t forget THE event of the festivities: the outdoor Grand bal du Nouvel An at Place Jacques-Cartier.

Happy Holidays!
