November 15, 2010 – Oysters have long been thought to have aphrodisiac properties. This has yet to be proven, but one thing is certain: the menu at La Garçonnière with fresh oysters daily has everything in place to seduce you. Served in the single, half-dozen or dozen, these oysters are enjoyed in an elegant setting so warm it envelops you like a shell. It goes without saying that the Old Montréal location of this epicurean treasure in itself is ideal for romantic interludes. And what tête-à-tête would be complete without the perfect accomplice – champagne– to the many epicurean delights that line the menu: from foie gras to royal ceviche to smoked salmon, cheese and caviar, every morsel is pure gastronomic pleasure.
Another treat as much for the eyes as for the taste buds is the popular Maestro S.V.P., situated on the ever lively boulevard Saint-Laurent where oyster tasting in a jazzy atmosphere and inviting décor is a veritable celebration of the senses. Baked, raw or as a dessert, the iridescent shells are emptied greedily, preceded or followed by a wide range of shellfish prepared with panache. Of course this gourmet revelry wouldn’t be complete without an excellent vintage from their long list of divine possibilities. So are oysters really aphrodisiacs? Maybe not, but supper at Maestro will certainly put you in the mood…
