June 13, 2011 – His glasses are as legendary as his zippers, and his talent, firmly established. After breaking onto the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts scene, designer Denis Gagnon has now turned his attention to the city’s hotel industry. But like his creations, which not only turn heads, but stand head and shoulders above the rest, it’s not any hotel that has the privilege of showcasing this grand couturier’s inimitable talent. In fact, in keeping with his elegant image, it’s the Place d’Armes Hôtel & Suites in the heart of Old Montréal that will be donning the designer’s new creations.
The hotel’s employees certainly won’t be disappointed: from the concierges to the valets to the receptionists, these men and women will be proudly wearing uniforms and accessories styled with Gagnon’s signature simplicity, which comes alive in the staff’s sober yet sophisticated black and white outfits.
The year 2011 is certainly a vintage year for Gagnon, who, aside from opening his atelier-boutique at 170B Saint-Paul Street West this past May, also celebrates his 10-year career anniversary. The timing couldn’t be more perfect: this year, the Place d'Armes also celebrates 10 years in business. Gagnon, however, is not the first great name in design to lend his name to a hotel: in April 2010, John Fluevog launched the Porter shoe, created exclusively for the staff of the Opus hotels.
Distinctive, stylish and inspiring, Québec’s haute couture will certainly be appreciated by a global clientele that comes here to soak up the uniquely avant-garde creativity signed Montréal.
