June 20, 2011 – Nuits d’Afrique, everyone’s favourite and festive ode to African culture, celebrates a quarter of a century of bringing audiences the very best artists from the sun-kissed continent from July 21 to 24. And what a party it promises to be, with four days of 30 outdoor concerts and activities for the whole family, many free, at the Village Nuits d’Afrique, which welcomes everyone to its new home this year at Le Parterre du Quartier des spectacles.
Drawing its inspiration from the baobab, the place where the people of Africa gather to talk, share stories and listen to elders, this 25th anniversary edition branches out with all the richness evoked by this mighty “Word Tree”.
The festival unveils a stellar line-up of world-class concerts, dance and percussion workshops, a photo exhibition and more, all of which represent a powerful legacy of sharing and discovery. Also, don’t miss the energy-infused and colourful opening parade or the Tombouctou market, where you can pick up one-of-a-kind jewellery, paintings, sculptures and traditional clothing as part of this incredible homage to the spirit and life of Africa.
