December 21, 2012 ─ From December 6 to February 3, the Quartier des spectacles will help you chase the winter blues away with two interactive light installations: Iceberg and Le jour des 8 soleils (The Day of 8 Suns). Playful, interactive and ingenious, these luminescent winter experiences shed light on Montréal’s indelible creativity and exuberant joviality with brilliant flair.
Iceberg
This clever installationhighlights the story of an iceberg, from its calving in Arctic waters to its final melting near a southern shore. Illuminated metallic arches represent the varying tonalities of an iceberg’s resonating crevasses, which sound like a gigantic pipe organ. Visitors pass through a tunnel of arches, listening to and playing this “giant organ”, whose notes and light travel from one end of this musical corridor to the other.
Le Jour des 8 soleils
The Day with 8 Suns – what a fabulous concept to battle bleak, winter weather! Visitors are led along a poetic route through the Quartier des spectacles, all the while following an invisible character in search of intriguing and fascinating light. This multimedia concept features architectural video projections that span eight downtown building façades. What’s more, the experience is enhanced by a soundtrack and narration at each site, conveniently available to be enjoyed via mobile phone.
In true Montréal style, Iceberg and Le Jour des 8 soleils offer an exciting and entertaining twist on traditional light therapy. Both installations are open to the public, so go ahead and lighten up in the Quartier des spectacles this winter!
