October 24 2013 — You don’t have to spend a fortune on accommodation in Montréal. There are numerous budget hotel options available, from low-cost hotels to youth hostels to hotel apartments and even university residences. You can even camp!

Furnished and Hotel Apartments
One sure way to save money while travelling is to cook for yourself, which makes staying in a hotel apartment or a furnished apartment a definite bonus (especially for families).  Available for short or long stays in a multitude of configurations (i.e. studio or multi-bedroom), you’ll enjoy a home away from home! Many such units in the city have been recently renovated and some even include a pool or fitness room.

Youth Hostels and University Residences
Conveniently located close to downtown, Montréal’s youth hostels and university residences offer private, semi-private or dormitory lodging (summertime only for residences). Aside from basic services (some places even offer a fully-equipped kitchen), hostels and residences offer a fantastic way to meet people of all ages from all walks of life.

Camping Sites
Who ever said that you couldn’t camp in the city? There are many campgrounds around Montréal for both tent and trailer camping. In particular, Camping Alouette is located just 30-km outside of Montréal and features 400 sites plus a daily downtown shuttle. Just a few kilometres away from the nearest metro, the Camping Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville is in a SEPAQ park nestled at the heart of nature, surrounded by the Saint-Lawrence River.
