January 28, 2010 – If you love country music and you love to dance, you’ll want to check out the calendar of activities at Club Bolo, a more than 200-member-strong country dance club in the Village. While it’s predominantly frequented by the gay and lesbian crowd, the cowboys and cowgirls who come to heel-toe here welcome one and all to the dance floor.
The people at Club Bolo stress that it doesn’t matter whether you’re a natural-born or born with two feet: what really counts is that you have a good time in a laid-back setting while getting to know your fellow dancers. The club’s calendar is chock full of opportunities to kick up your heels, including open dances on Friday nights or the popular Tea dances on Sunday afternoons, and special special events like the Sweetheart Stomp around Valentine’s Day and the Country Stomp in autumn.
Club Bolo’s popularity stretches as far and wide as their ten-gallon hats, with its dance team regularly performing at events for the gay and heterosexual communities in Montréal and across the border. In summer, you can regularly catch them scootching and shuffling down Sainte-Catherine Street as part of the pride celebrations.
If you’ll be in town for an extended visit, Club Bolo offers dance lessons too, from beginner to advanced, led by talented instructors who can lead you through the intricacies and etiquettes of line dancing, couples, contras, two-steps and mixers.
