February 2, 2014— On the first Friday of every month, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC) enriches its cultural offering with a unique event that includes a live music performance, a bar service, and, of course, a viewing of the MAC’s extensive collection of contemporary art.
First launched in 2007, the Friday Nocturnes event features a different musical artist each time and has hosted some of the most talented musicians on both the local and international scene, including DJ Champion, We Are Wolves, The National Parcs, Beast, Cœur de pirate, Creature, and Plants and Animals. The live shows are from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., with simulcast projections on two giant screens.
From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., visitors can commingle with like-minded art aficionados around the cash bar, which serves original drinks, and peruse some of the objects on display in the MAC’s galleries and exhibition areas.
The Friday Nocturnes is a Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) of sorts that celebrates all forms of creativity. It’s first come, first served, with admission to all activities available through a regular ticket or through the $20 “Wired card”, which also gives access to the MAC for one year. Friday Nocturnes take place all year round, except in January and August.
