May 31, 2010 – Once upon a time, in a downtrodden and abandoned old neighbourhood somewhere between the Village, Hochelaga and the Multimedia District, there was a tavern. Then, one nice October day, the owner of the now defunct Sergent Recruteur came onto the scene and turned this fairy tale into a story of an extreme makeover… former Sainte-Catherine Street bar and lounge, Le Grillon embodies the reinvented tavern concept that is all the rage. A few of the oldies and goodies survived the transformation, such as the pool table, video-poker and televised hockey games, bien sûr. As for the décor, antlers and tree trunks affirm the masculinity of the interior design, while cushiony couches worthy of the Sun King himself provide a comfortable repose for the gentler sex. The story continues with scrumptious martinis, microbrews and insect-inspired shooters such as the beetle or the mosquito that delight patrons from far and wide. As for the food, it’s tavern fare at its best, with chips, dip, olives, burgers and salads to satisfy the munchies. Our favourites? Martini Thursdays with oysters (when in season, of course!) and the quality that reigns supreme over every detail of this good times establishment. And the ending to this tale? It is far from over, but we can tell you that with the advent of Le Grillon, all the Montrealers in the kingdom rejoiced and enjoyed many a 5 à 7!
