Can a city that cosmopolitan and chic also be sports-crazy? Absolutely. Montréal may have a reputation as a jetsetter’s paradise but the thrill of the game runs just as deep in this town of athletes.

Consider the picks, starting with hockey. Home of the “Habs”, our legendary Montréal Canadiens and 24-time Stanley Cup champions, the city is powered by puck fever winter-long as ardent fans cheer on their favourite ice hockey team. Their Hall of Fame is a must-visit for any follower wanting to relive memories of mythical performances and spirited rivalries and or hold virtual Q&A sessions with many of our illustrious players.

Or the Grand Prix Formula 1 in June, when the kings of the track race their high-performance engines to victory on the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit. For the occasion, thousands of high-speed tifosi descend on Île Ste-Hélène and carry the celebrations to the heart of the city after.

Summer sizzles with the Alouettes, our professional football team, whose downtown stadium, packed full to the brim with roaring crowds, is the place to be. The Impact, for their part, never fail to thrill with their soccer prowess over at the Saputo Stadium. And every summer, Montréal is host to the Rogers Cup, a first-class meet for international tennis stars that alternates between men’s and women’s championships each year.

But it’s not just the games or meets or heats that makes Montréal so sports sensational. It’s also all about what happens, before and after. Because whether Montrealers are diehard sports fans or occasional spectators, they bring a whole lot of energy to the fore, turning every event into a giant, all-out celebration.

We fete our local, national and international athletes with the same kind of gusto, across the board. Because this is Montréal—and getting together and having a good time is our passion!
