Spin the compass and choose your adventure: you can’t go wrong no matter what direction you travel!

Granted, there’s no place like Montréal, but when it comes time to venture off the island, its neighbouring regions offer their own characteristic menu of activities and attractions.
Launch yourself straight into space in Laval’s Cosmodôme, a fantastic Space Centre just a bridge away from Montréal to the north.

Continue on to the Laurentians where you can steal away for a day, a weekend or forever and never run out of things to do. Fabulous resorts, golf courses, spas, ski hills and quaint mountain villages set the scene for fun and discovery at any time of year.

Or travel north-east to sample local treats along the Lanaudière region’s many country roads en route to the Festival de Lanaudière, Canada’s most prestigious classical music festival, or the Île-des-Moulins historic site in Terrebonne.  A prime destination for outdoor pursuits, the Lanaudière is a four-season haven for nature enthusiasts.

If the nation’s capital beckons you, head west to the Outaouais region where you can play in the beautiful and expansive Gatineau Park, just across the river from Ottawa.

Feeling a little peckish? The Montérégie region is a foodie’s paradise. Just south-east of Montréal, it is home to orchards (many are pick-your-own), vineyards and maple groves. Travel along the Cider or Wine Routes to discover regional gourmet delights or visit historic Fort Chambly or Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum for a taste of our history. If a family trip is more in your sights, then the Parc Safari with its roaming wild animals is a great option in the region, only 30 minutes away from the city just off Exit 6 on Autoroute 15.

The Eastern Townships is a cyclist’s dream with over 500 kilometres of trails that wind throughout the gentle countryside and past the area’s characteristic Victorian architecture. It is also a fabulous romantic getaway thanks to its many charming inns, cozy B&Bs and gourmet restaurants. Also, the Granby Zoo (complete with the Amazoo Water Park for summer fun) is a definite must.
