Le Petit Italien on Bernard Avenue is a classic. While its chic neighbourhood of Outremont is often swayed by gastronomic trends, Le Petit Italien rests firm as a tried-and-true gourmet staple that keeps us coming back: for the fresh pasta and for the carefully-selected Italian wine list. While the Chianti selection is extensive, this is indeed the perfect place to branch out and try a Barbera d’Asti or d’Alba or Barolos. As for the pasta, the incomparable Linguine Buongustaio with prosciutto, chicken, grapes, basil, garlic and white wine tops the list, however, you mustn’t underestimate the divine Linguine al gorgonzola with spinach, caramelised apples, pine nuts and cream sauce. For something a little different, the Risotto with wild mushrooms is simply to die-for, or there is their famous grilled salmon with balsamic vinegar. Simple, stylish and classic; an excellent evening for $40.
