December 13, 2010 – For the past 20 years, Montréal’s one-of-a-kind Port Symphonies have been a favourite wintertime tradition that reflects the city’s resonating innovation and creativity. A tradition they may have become, but traditional, they certainly are not! These symphonies are held outdoors and feature the melodic timbres of foghorns and boat sirens with a few locomotive whistles and the bells of Notre-Dame Basilica thrown in for good measure!
An annual event presented by Pointe-à-Callière, the Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History, this year’s original compositions will resonate from the Quays of the Old Port to Place Royale on February 27 and March 6, at 1:30 p.m. respectively.
Yugoslavian-born Montrealer Anthony Rozankovic is at the helm of this unusual urban orchestra and is charged with charting this year’s extraordinary musical course. No stranger to Pointe‑à‑Callière, he also composed the soundtrack for the Museum’s all-new multimedia show, Yours Truly, Montréal.
No matter the weather, audiences are treated to an extremely unique musical performance. It’s no wonder that each year, the masses flock to experience this free, sonorous spectacle.
