Published on July 14, 2009 - Each summer, beginning mid-May, everybody’s favourite picnic party unpacks another great line-up of electronic music over at Parc Jean-Drapeau, just a hop away from the city.

That’s right: every Sunday of every weekend until October, Montréal’s resident gurus and invited guests from around the globe set up their tables and get down to the business of manipulating samplers, sequencers, synthesizers and all manner of music makers. The goal? To share the incredible spectrum of electronic sounds with hordes of happy picnickees and picnickers.

Man, the gigantic steel sculpture by Alexander Calder, is the principal site of this weekend mixer, which is sought out by a motley crew of music lovers, be they single, couples or families with kids. The entrance fee is $6 before 3:30 p.m., and $10 after; truly reasonable any way you look at it, and especially so for those who prefer lazing in the mornings and shaking their thang later.

From 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., weather-permitting, the Piknic parties on amidst the flora and fauna of this fabulous park. Participants enjoy the freedom of dancing under wide open skies, while the island of Montréal looks on jealously. With access available by métro, bike, roller blades, car and boat, there’s simply no excuse for missing out on this major electronic music happening.

Piknic Électronik (until October 4, 2009)
