Published on July 29, 2009 – There’s fun for everyone over at Pôle des Rapides, only ten minutes from Montréal’s city centre. Located on the southwestern part of the island, this scenic tourism area, which is surrounded by bodies of water, is home to many cultural and historic sites and offers an array of events and activities year-round.

To make the most of out the region’s numerous treasures, nothing beats a hop-on hop-off bus tour, accompanied by a guide. The round-trip package includes several stop-offs to enjoy the parks, sites and museums (some of which have free entry) and the chance to discover the banks of the Lachine Canal, cradle of the fur trade and Canadian industrialization.

You can also rent a bike and pedal along the beautiful bike path that follows the river, take the river shuttle or treat yourself to a heritage cruise along the canal and get a taste of the gourmet pleasures on the plentiful terrasses lining Saint-Joseph Boulevard or the nearby Atwater Market.

The 1.5-hour guided tour, which can extend up to 5 hours depending on the stops selected, is offered Saturdays and Sundays until September 6 and leaves from the Infotouriste Centre on Peel Street or from the Marché Bonsecours in Old Montréal. Truly a delightful way to discover the Pôle des Rapides’ panorama and charm.
