Published on August 5, 2009 - If pictures are worth a thousand words, there are stories upon stories to be seen and heard during Le Mois de La Photo this fall from September 10 to October 11. For its 11th edition, this highly popular international biennale of contemporary photography presents The Spaces of the Image, whose theme explores mechanisms and staging in today’s photography.
While the event is an obvious choice for photo buffs, absolutely anyone and everyone can enjoy the array of astouding images that guest curator Gaëlle Morel has put together, which includes more than 20 solo exhibitions featuring works by artists from Québec, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Israel, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdomand the United States.
The people behind Le Mois de la Photo are committed to bringing this art form to the widest possible public possible, and have teamed up with various venues (museums, galleries, artist-run centres and maisons de la culture) to present exhibitions and public space interventions city-wide, most of which are free. This includes the event’s launch in Montréal’s historic Saint-Henri district, so it won’t cost you a dime to gaze at some of the most arresting images from around the world you’ve ever seen.
