January 31, 2011 – For its second edition, which takes place from February 26 to March 13, Art Souterrain will unveil nothing less than the biggest underground contemporary art exhibition ever seen. The program for this one-of-a-kind Montréal event features 107 visual art projects by Québec and Canadian artists that cover a 6-km circuit comprising 14 exhibition zones and 5 metro stations.

From Place des Arts to Complexe Les Ailes and Place Ville Marie to Place Bonaventure, to name just a few places, the Underground Pedestrian Network will offer participants the chance to see a multitude of new faces. These ever-captivating exhibition zones are at once a unique example of Montréal’s dynamic cultural scene and an educational event that creates meaningful contact between the artists, their works and the public.

Organized in conjunction with the MONTRÉAL HIGH LIGHTS Festival and the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), the Art Souterrain exhibition will be launched in grand style as part of Nuit blanche (Montréal All-Nighter), one of the focal points of the festival. Throughout this intense nightlong cultural event, and several times a day thereafter, some 200 cultural mediators will offer free guided visits of the circuit. Free audio guides will also be offered to people who prefer to peruse the circuit at their own rhythm.

Daily shows, conferences on contemporary art as well as the People’s Choice Award, in which the public votes on their favourite artists, will be on the program. For a peek at Montréal’s underground at its most extraordinary, make sure to mark this exhibition on your calendar.
