September 2, 2011 – Ahoy ye pirates, sailors and lovers of the big blue: behold as a breathtaking parade of six magnificent tall ships winds its way down the mighty St. Lawrence River, right into the Quays of the Old Port of Montréal this coming September 14 for the Tall Ships on the Quays event.
You don’t have to be a buccaneer to board these mighty ships – from September 14 to 18, sailors of all ages are invited to explore these majestic vessels from stem to stern and to enjoy a multitude of nautically-themed shows and seafaring entertainment. The Niagara, the Pride of Baltimore II, the Lynx, the Challenge, the Pathfinder and the St‑Lawrence II all serve as a floating theatre to a cohort of celebrations, day in and day out over three great days, to highlight this memorable port of call. Actors will don period costumes, circus performers will showcase their talent around a mast and a dazzling array of fireworks will steal the show as it lights up the Montréal skies on September 17, as of 9 p.m.
Visitors wishing to learn more about navigation and the history of these great ships will find all their answers in the seaside village made up of 20 stands along the Quays. A whale of a tale or two might just be spun as real sailors recount their adventures at sea.
Calling all landlubbers! Come out to the Old Port and try out your sea legs… but hurry, the sailboats won’t be there for long!
