July 11, 2011 – The boys are back in town, and we couldn’t be more excited! This year’s Rogers Cup tennis tournament, organized by Tennis Canada, features a grand-slam line-up of the world’s best players, including Novak Djokovic (now new world number one), Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, from August 5 to 14 at the Uniprix Stadium. The shining stars of the women’s tour will meet up on the courts during the same week in Toronto.
Classified as a Masters 1000 event on the ATP World Tour Schedule, the Rogers Cup presented by the National Bank, is considered by the tennis world to be one of the best-run tournaments on the Tour, ranking only third in age behind Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. And what legends it has seen grace its courts in over the years: Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, and two-time defending champion Andy Murray have all thrilled Montréal crowds with their incredible athletic endurance and prowess.
Popular Québec actress Geneviève Brouillette will be covering the blistering court play and giving you up-to-the-minute inside news that you can follow on Twitter. As well, the National Bank 2.0 Squad will be covering this major sports event via social media, meaning you won’t miss a minute of the fast-paced action—the victories, the upsets, the surprise turns—even if you can’t be there in person.
For those of you who are lucky enough to lay your hands on tickets, on-site activities will include autograph signings, music, dancing, contests as well as clown shows and face painting for the kids. Come cheer on your favourite athlete, and experience the thrill of watching the masters of men’s tennis.
