June 9, 2014 — This year's Rogers Cup tennis tournament in Montréal welcomes the best women players in the world, from August 1 to 10, to the Uniprix Stadium. This international group of dazzling demigoddesses includes recent Grand Slam champions Na Li (2014 Australian Open) and Maria Sharapova (2014 French Open), as well as Serena Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska, Petra Kvitova, Victoria Azarenka, Angelique Kerber, and local hero, Eugenie Bouchard, whose recent ascent into the top ranks makes this event all the more special for Montrealers and tourists alike.
Rogers Cup, presented by National Bank and organized by Tennis Canada, is classified as a Premier 5 event on the WTA schedule. In 2012, it was Petra Kvitova who took home the trophy and added her name to an impressive list of past champions, among whom are legends Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Martina Hingis, Justine Henin, and Kim Clijsters.
As for Canadians, well, Faye Urban is the last to have won the trophy, as she captured both the singles and doubles (with Vicki Berner) championships in 1969. Perhaps 45 years later, it will be our very own Eugenie Bouchard who will add another feather to her history-making tennis capGo Genie Go!
