January 7, 2013 – Montréal’s Fête des Neiges, the city’s foremost winter event for families, celebrates its 30th anniversary, offering more reasons than ever to play outside at Parc Jean-Drapeau. Staged over three consecutive weekends, from January 19 to February 3, 2013, this popular event hosts a wide range of activities, including tube sliding, zip-lining, dog sledding, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, boot and ice hockey, snow-“scootering,” and ice skating, not to mention the presence of Abenaki teepees and a magical Snow Village!
The lovable polar bear mascot, Boule de Neige (Snowball), is back, along with his many friends, to welcome all the visitors to the festivities, while comedian Yan England serves as the spokesperson of the event.
Since 1983, organizers have chosen the islands of Sainte-Hélène and Notre-Dame as an enchanting backdrop for the event. Formerly the site of the 1967 International and Universal Exposition (Expo 67), Parc Jean-Drapeau has become a serious playground for locals and visitors alike. Where else during winter can one enjoy a variety of outdoor sports or bust a move with some friendly bears or listen to tales from eccentric wise owls? The Fête des Neiges provides great entertainment for the whole family, and all this against the magnificent backdrop of Montréal’s soaring skyline and the glimmering waters of the St. Lawrence River.
