Meetings... à la Montréal
Montréal’s unique mix of fun, lifestyle, buzz, authenticity and one-of-a-kind experiences make it a natural pick as an exciting incentive destination. This cosmopolitan city rolls out the red carpet to delegates, making sure they leave with unforgettable memories and plans to come back soon again. Where else in North America can they enjoy a unique multi-lingual environment, whose European accents of culture, history, and architecture are matched in equal measure by great food and joie de vivre?
Festival fun for everyone
“Block parties” here take on a whole new meaning here, as thousands converge on traffic-free streets to enjoy summer’s colourful line-up of performances. Formula 1 fans get their fill of speed and high-octane engines; jazz lovers keep time to the music of their favourite artists at the 11-day Jazz Fest, and comedy buffs bask in a full month of fun with the Just for Laugh's hilarious line-up. Films, beer, food and sports are also on our star-studded events calendar.
At last count, Montréal had 6,000 restaurants representing 80 cuisines. Here, food is an art form, with local and international chefs transforming locally grown produce into medal-winning statements. Chefs regularly take tried-and-true recipes from our grandmothers’ kitchens and top them up with 21st-century finesse, or give global dishes a uniquely Montréal twist. From laidback eateries to bring-your-own-wine restaurants to five-star restaurants, Montréal has foodies raving about its culinary prowess. We love food so much, we’ve devoted an entire festival to it: the MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE festival, an eating extravaganza that surpasses in creativity and imagination with each discovery-worthy edition.
Shopping and museums
Looking for that special something? Start with Sainte-Catherine Street and its 1,200 boutiques of fashion, sports goods and home furnishings. Or delve a little deeper: our Underground Pedestrian Network offers 32 kilometres (21 miles) of brightly-lit passageways that connect you with 1,700 more boutiques, as well as the Convention Centre. Museum-goers won’t be disappointed by the wealth of exhibition spaces, each revealing more about the city and its myriad interests and influences.
Head outdoors to play
While Montréal’s definitely urban, it’s also green. Abundant parks cover the city's landscape and downtown’s Mount Royal, considered the lungs of the city, gives joggers, walkers and cyclists plenty of breathing space. BIXI, the city’s public bike service—the first of its kind in North America—gets cyclists rolling with a quick swipe of their credit card. And water sports? Jet boat on the Lachine Rapids, cruise the St. Lawrence River, ride our legendary standing waves or find a nearby conservation area in which to navigate a sea kayak.
Tee time and spa time
If swinging a golf stick is more your delegates’ style, they’ll be happy to know that Montréal is home to the Royal Montréal Golf Club, host of the prestigious President's Cup in 2007, and oldest golf club in North America. They can tee off from more than 12 city courses, all within 20 minutes of downtown. Hundreds of other challenging provincial fairways and available tee times are listed at golfexpressquebec.com. (The province boasts 397 golf courses in all!).
After a day on the greens, they can work out the knots and with a body treatment at one of our many upscale spas. A Turkish steam bath, Vichy rain massage, or maple sugar body scrub can be your key to a new outlook on life.
Stories of culture
Montréal’s cosmopolitan reputation is the envy of other cities. Undeniably, its 360 years of history are at the root; the city has been in turn a French settlement and a British stronghold. Today, the confluence of cultures from around the globe continues to leave its mark on Montréal’s multifaceted and spirited character. From the cobblestone streets of the old city to its vibrant and modern downtown, Montréal moves to the beat of its easygoing citizens and their warm and welcoming style of living.
