Montréal rolls out the green carpet for the prestigious Presidents Cup

From September 27 to 30, Montréal rolls out the green carpet for the prestigious Presidents Cup

Montréal, September 19, 2007 – From September 27 to 30, the best golf players in the world will be in Montréal vying for the PGA’s prestigious Presidents Cup. More than 132,000 spectators and some 300 journalists will be attending this seventh tournament edition, which will take place at the Royal Montréal Golf Club on Île Bizard. Players will be here on September 25 and 26 for two days of training before the four days of tournament competition begin.

“We are immensely proud that Montréal has been selected to host this prestigious event,” says Charles Lapointe, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal. “By hosting a tournament of such global stature, the spotlight will shine on Montréal for the six tournament days, since the event will be televised in more than 140 countries, which translates into more than one billion viewers. It’s an excellent occasion to show the world how Montréal harmoniously blends a dynamic urban environment with relaxing green spaces.”

The tournament, which welcomes the world’s top golf players—from the United States and non-European nations—will be played in 34 matches on the Blue Course, ranked among the 100 best in the world. Jack Nicklaus from the USA and Gary Player from South Africa will captain the American team and the international team, respectively. The tournament will see American golf legends like Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk and Woody Austin compete against players of the international team like Nick O’Hern, Ernie Els and Angel Cabrera, not to mention Canadian golfer Mike Weir (the choice of captain Gary Player), who will be making his fourth consecutive appearance at the Presidents Cup.
