Tourisme Montréal receives the prestigious National Meeting Industry Award during the National Meeting Industry Day
Montréal, April 28, 2008 – Tourisme Montréal proudly accepted The National Meeting Industry Award during the National Meeting Industry Day held on April 10, at the Montréal Science Centre. The award, presented by the Montréal chapter of Meeting Planners International (MPI) in the presence of several guest speakers, underscored the excellence in hospitality provided by Tourisme Montréal and Team Montréal—a coalition of the city’s convention industry leaders—during the MPI World Education Congress last summer.
“Tourisme Montréal is honoured to receive this award from a world leader in the meetings and conventions industry,” says Charles Lapointe, CEO of Tourisme Montréal. “Deploying the elaborate and innovative welcome program that was developed for MPI required a solid sponsorship plan, which was backed by leading players of the city’s tourism industry. This distinction not only testifies to the remarkable dedication of our great team of volunteers, but it also reinforces Montréal’s reputation as a leading international meeting destination. Hosting events of this stature is why Montréal ranks first in Canada and second in North America for hosting international meetings, according to the Union of International Associations,” concludes Mr. Lapointe.
The National Meeting Industry Award Program recognizes people or organizations involved in the meetings and conventions industry that have supported the development of policy and programs impacting the industry. Each chapter recognizes a member of their community who has significantly contributed to the success of an event held in their territory in the past year.
