Montréal, November 12, 2009 – Montréal has been ranked tenth out of “the ten happiest places on Earth” according to Australian travel web site, Lonely Planet. This honour was announced on November 5 during the presentation of the ten top-ranked cities in its recent publication, LONELY PLANET'S BEST IN TRAVEL 2009 - 850 trends, destinations, journeys & experiences for the year ahead.

Montréal placed tenth, just after the town of Happy, Texas. For this ranking, the jury considered the annual staging of one of the world’s best comedy festivals, the Just for Laughs Festival, as well as the location and significance of Mount Royal as a central, natural attraction, the importance of gastronomy in the local culture and the proximity and abundance of green space.
