Some 15,000 Montréal tourist industry employees rediscover the city's great attractions

Montréal, July 18, 2011 – For the 19th time in its history, Tourisme Montréal organized its Opération Portes ouvertes (Open House Operation) this past June, an initiative geared to its members and those who have a direct impact on the development of Montréal tourism. The objective was for key players to discover various Montréal attractions so that they may, in turn, promote these during their professional functions or activities. As such, 15,000 industry members—employees of Tourisme Montréal, the Ministère du Tourisme du Québec, the Palais des congrès de Montréal, hotels, retailers, tourist sites, taxi companies, etc.—enjoyed free passes or significant discounts to rediscover Montréal.

“Each year, this campaign is welcomed with enthusiasm by those involved in the local tourist industry. For this 19th edition, over 30 tourist attractions opened their doors to those in the business, an invitation that was heartily accepted,” said Pierre Bellerose, Vice President, Public Relations, Product Research and Development, at Tourisme Montréal. “This enthusiasm highlights the great dynamism inherent in Montréal’s tourism industry, the industry’s interest in becoming more familiar with our city’s tourism offering, and a spirit of camaraderie that handily reflects how everyone benefits from recognizing all that Montréal, as a destination, has to offer,” Mr. Bellerose concluded.

The Opération Portes ouvertes took place during the entire month of June. Each participant was invited to bring along their spouse and children if applicable, thus making the day as enjoyable as it was practical, as they visited the various sites and learned more about participating partners’ services and activities. Backed by the great success of this industry initiative, Montréal now boasts ambassadors with a more profound knowledge of the city, who are better-equipped to share their Montréal experiences with their own out-of-town customers. What better way to make our city even more inviting and exciting to visitors, and to provide them with an unforgettable stay?
