Choosing a hotel

How to ensure the quality of the establishment
Two types of classifications are used in Montréal. Suns are used exclusively to evaluate bed and breakfast establishments, while stars are assigned to hotels, tourist homes, resorts, youth hostels and teaching establishments (student residences). Hotel classification is the responsibility of Corporation de l’industrie touristique du Québec (CITQ), which is in charge of assessing all accommodation establishments in the Province of Québec according to very specific criteria.

MAKING A BOOKING

  • Booking conditions
Rate in effect for a period of time set forth by the accommodation operator.
The rate is per room, per night, based on double occupancy, subject to availability, and excludes taxes. This rate is not available to groups. Some restrictions may apply. Consult with the establishment of your choosing for more information.

  • Security of information
All information sent to our partners using the last-minute console is encrypted and secured using the 128-bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol.
For more information about how your information is processed, please review the Confidentiality and privacy policy.

  • Is the rate applicable per person or room?
The rates are per room, per night, based on double occupancy, and are subject to room availability.

  • Does the price include taxes?
All rates exclude taxes (GST, QST and ACCOMMODATION TAX).

Tax calculations are as follows, for a one-night stay:
    (Room rate + (Room rate x 3.5% accommodation tax) + ((Room rate + (Room rate x 3.5% accommodation tax)) x 5%) + ((Room rate + (Room rate x 3.5% accommodation tax)) x 5%) x 7.5%)

Example for a room with a rate of $98 per night:
    1. $98 + (98$ x 3.5%) (accommodation tax) = $101.43
    2. + 5% GST on $101.43 (sum of a) = $5.07
    3. + 7.5% QST on $106.50 (sum of a+b) = $7.99
    4. The overall cost of a one-night stay in the room is (sum of a+b+c) = $114.49.

What is the nature of the various taxes?
The accommodation tax is set to 3.5% per night. The proceeds are used to promote tourism in Montréal. However, it does not apply to camping sites or to accommodations that are rented for a period of six hours or less, or for more than 31 days.
GST = The federal tax on goods and services is a 5% tax added to the cost thereof.
QST = The Québec provincial sales tax is a 7.5% tax added to the cost of purchase and GST.

  • Is a tax refund available?
Non-resident visitors of Canada may ask for a GST refund on most goods and accommodation services. For more information, visit the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency Web site. The Québec provincial sales tax (QST) and accommodation tax are non-refundable when applied to temporary accommodations.
