Published on August 3, 2009 – Les Amis de la Montagne (Friends of the Mountain) invites you to learn more about Montréal's backyard, the magnificent Mount Royal, with their recently-launched interactive map.

Download it to your cell phone, iPod or any mp4 reader (audio-video podcasts) for an earful and eyeful of history, works of art, monuments, sweeping vistas or the flora and fauna of Montrealers’ favourite place to hang out. If you don’t have the technology, you can borrow some from the Smith House, a former 19th-century farm house close to the summit that now serves as an interpretation centre and Les Amis headquarters.

Using the map’s filters, you can locate points of interest that include views and lookouts, arts and culture, history and architecture and nature. Plus, you can zero in on nearby attractions, including two beautiful cemeteries—Notre-Dame-des-Neiges and Mont-Royal—the Université de Montréal, Saint Joseph’s Oratory and much more.

Or maybe you want to quietly wander and soak up the history of this mighty Montréal landmark through your earphones. Their podcasts offers excellent bytes of information on the history of the mountain. Did you know when the cross was erected on the summit? And why? To follow, on Mount Royal’s interactive map…
