Precious chocolate gems, in a myriad of flavours, textures and colours, twinkle from behind their jeweller-style glass display cases, promising the utmost in sinful decadence. While the jewels here may not be the kind you wear (although a hot chocolate moustache is more than possible!), they are as luxurious and as coveted as diamonds.
Set against an elegantly white minimalist décor, Suite 88’s edible treasures are as delectably striking to your eye as they are to your palette. Made in small batches from fresh, premium ingredients, they contain no trans fat or preservatives. From the classic to the unusual, Suite 88 offers a wide range of unusual flavour combinations in a variety of forms: domes, mosaics, pearls, Belgian waffles, gelato, origin bars and hot chocolate. Drinking one of their incredibly rich, made-from-pieces-of-real-melted-chocolate (!) hot chocolates has been likened to enjoying “a liquid dark chocolate bar”. Indulge in a classic version of this wintertime favourite, or boldly partake in an intense variation available in Cinnamon, Pumpkin, Ginger, Vanilla, Sea Salt, Orange and Mint. Or, if you are indeed “the real deal” when it comes to chocolate, there is no other choice but the Cayenne Chili: a thick hot chocolate spiced in the traditional Mayan way and definitely not for the faint of heart!
With now two locations in Montréal – on Saint-Denis Street and downtown – Suite 88 is chocolate’s sweet answer to a chic cocktail bar, complete with their own style of shooter where you actually eat the glass. Nibble the top off the round-based chocolate pyramid to sip your choice of liqueur: Absout Mandarin, Raspberry Daquiri, Apple Martini, Litchi and even Sake are among the spirits available. And while everything rings refinement in this establishment, the prices are more than reasonable, so nibble, sip, crunch and savour away!
