Three Award-Winning Montréal Restaurants

December 5, 2012 – If Montréal has become an international gastronomic destination, it is due to the talent of the city’s outstanding chefs who head exceptional restaurants.

In recent years, two Montréal restaurants in particular keep popping up on national and international award lists: indeed, we are talking about none other than Normand Laprise’s Toqué! and Jérôme Ferrer’s Europea. These two great Relais et Châteaux chefs have deftly established their restaurants as undisputed leaders in Montréal’s culinary scene.

For almost twenty years, Toqué! has captivated many a fine palate by the indelible quality of its cuisine that draws on top-quality local produce and the savoir-faire of its chef, assisted by an expert team of culinary virtuosos. Its understated décor and subtle ambiance, incomparable service and a wine list overflowing with exceptional vintages also explain why the restaurant was awarded the highest distinction for both CAA-AAA (five diamonds) and the Debeur guide (four stars). It’s a sure bet that if Michelin dropped by, Toqué! would have more stars to its credit…

It’s the same tried and true recipe over at Europea: marvellous cuisine, ultra-professional service and inviting décor make for an award-winning combination that has garnered Chef Jérôme Ferrer numerous accolades. His restaurant ranked among the top 10 best in the world according to TripAdvisor 2012, and also figured well in the Zagat list as well. At the helm of a highly-skilled and experienced culinary team, Chef Ferrer constantly modifies his menu in order to highlight seasonal, market-fresh ingredients. Roland Del Monte, an exceptional patissier who was honoured with the title of “meilleur ouvrier de France”, or France’s Finest Craftsman, is in charge of the dessert menu.

And finally, the summit of Montréal gastronomy is, without question, the Beaver Club. The culinary jewel of the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel has welcomed generations of distinguished patrons. A few years ago, the fifty-year-old building revamped its image, updated its décor and refreshed its cuisine, all the while preserving its identity. This incredibly successful endeavour led to the prestigious Debeur 2011 Restaurant of the Year award. Under the watchful eye of Chef Martin Paquet, the restaurant serves up modern French cuisine that is as delicious as it is impeccable. The restaurant’s fresh, new image aside, the time-honoured tradition of its dress code still stands in this temple of fine cuisine!
