International des Feux Loto-Québec fireworks competition, presented by TELUS

June 25, 2012 – During the most prestigious event of its kind, pyrotechnicians from eight countries display their bold talents to compete for the world's most coveted honours in the celebration of fireworks: gold, silver, and bronze Jupiter Awards.

The International des Feux Loto-Québec, presented by TELUS, is a musical fireworks competition featuring la crème de la crème of pyrotechnic arts that lights up Montréal's midsummer night skies. The principle is simple: each participating nation coordinates a magnificent show of fireworks synchronized to music, ranging from classical masterpieces to jazz standards to disco to techno to pop, much to the thunderous approval of thousands of spectators.

The official site of the festival is La Ronde, where an evening of thrilling rides followed by a breathtaking fireworks spectacle makes for a fabulous night out. Montrealers and travellers alike can also flock to the Old Port to secure that perfect view of the action.

Another favourite vantage point is the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, which is closed to traffic on competition nights solely for this purpose. Pedestrians inhabit the bridge temporarily, eyes pointed upward, in anticipation of the performance to come.

The fireworks are equally—if not more so—beautifully experienced from the St. Lawrence River, where a cruise can prove ideal to take in the luminous display. The colourful sparkling overhead reflects magically on the impressive waterway, a sight to behold!

This brilliant event bursts onto the summer scene on June 30, starting with Japan, followed by the Switzerland, Canada, Greece, France, Portugal, Italy, and the United States. An indisputable highlight of the 2012 edition will be the tribute to Queen on August 3, the same evening that the Jupiter Awards ceremony will take place.
