Published on November 2, 2009 – Bach, Strauss, Ravel, Debussy, Prokofiev, Haydn, Rachmaninov…The 2009 – 2010 season of the OSM features the greatest composers of all time, with the place of honour reserved for none other than the great Beethoven himself.

Until May 12, 2010, Kent Nagano provides music lovers of all genres a passport for a symphonic journey of vast proportions, from classical to contemporary, mixing in timeless concertos from 18th and 19th century maestros as well as celebrated works from the 20th century such as extracts from the musical comedy, West Side Story, by Leonard Bernstein, or even Piano Concerto no. 4 by André Mathieu.

Already in motion since this past September, the OSM’s musical journey through time accommodates not just everyone’s musical tastes, but their schedules as well.  With morning, late afternoon and even Sunday performances, the diverse OSM calendar allows all to savour their musical flavour of choice, at their convenience. Even kids are indulged this season, with the Children’s Corner program that provides playful, musical adventures for all to enjoy, such as Halloween at the OSM, Escape into Space and Scheherazade.

The Beethoven Festival will take place from May 4 to May 12, featuring five incredible concerts including the much-anticipated May 11 performance when distinguished writer Yann Martel will read his original text, The Creatures of Prometheus, commissioned by the OSM. The season will end brilliantly as Beethoven’s Ninth Closes the Festival on May 12 in the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier at Place des Arts.
