February 10, 2016 - Montréal has a reputation for all things innovative and cutting-edge; well, that goes for its cultural offering as well.  Home to an all-star list of internationally-renowned institutions, the city is a hotbed of ingenious talent in its most classic form.

Our cultural calendar never skips a beat, with a diverse array of events and performances running all year long. Ballet, opera, music, theatre…you name it, we’ve got it. And we flaunt it, in venues ranging from grand performance halls to intimate black-box theatres, parks to churches, traditional or unusual – no matter where, classical talent runs rampant throughout the city for all to enjoy.

We’ve earned bragging rights about our dynamic arts and culture scene thanks to incredible companies the likes of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal led by renowned director, Kent Nagano and the Orchestre métropolitain under the superlative direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin,  and the Opéra de Montréal. In addition, outstanding events such as the Montréal Chamber Music Festival and the Festival TransAmeriques, whose innovative programming highlights bold contemporary eclectic works in dance and theatre, can simply not be overlooked - and that is just to name but a few of our local superstars that spoil us with their brilliance at home and do us proud on the world stage.

A true creative nexus, Montréal is home to a thriving dance scene, as demonstrated by an ever-expanding audience with a voracious appetite for contemporary dance from here and abroad. The Grands Ballets Canadiens and the Agora de la danse have been permanent fixtures on the world’s major stages and festivals for decades, each expressing their unique choreographic language in a fabulous showcase of Montréal’s avant-garde dance prowess to the world.

And since world-class companies require world-class venues, the OSM now calls the all-new  La Maison symphonique de Montréal home and the Museum of Fine Arts’ new Pavilion of Quebec and Canadian Art and Bourgie Concert Hall in the newly-transformed Eskine and American Church adjacent to the museum showcases a comprehensive collection of historical and contemporary Canadian art as well as hosts a full range of musical performances along with a variety of museum-related public programs.

And, of course, our very own window to all things cultural – a.k.a. La Vitrine – is a one-stop shop for shows and discount tickets across the island, with up-to-date information on events and venues.
