Montréal, February 26th, 2009 – From March 19th to 29th, Montréal will be the theatre of the 27th edition of the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA).For ten days running, this unique festival—indeed the only one of its kind, will draw a mix of cinephiles, art lovers and curious viewers, together with artists and industry professionals from the four corners of the earth who will be travelling to Montréal to present their works.
“Year after year, Montréal proudly hosts this prestigious event, internationally recognized as the sole competitive festival to specialize in films on art,” stated Charles Lapointe, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tourisme Montréal. “Since its launch 27 years ago, the event has expanded from five to ten screening days, and from a single theatre venue to close to ten. Coupled with the ever increasing number of festivalgoers, these figures clearly attest to the all important place occupied by art and culture in our fair city,” Mr Lapointe went on to say.
Loyal to a mission which seeks to raise public knowledge and appreciation of art while rewarding talented artists for their artistic achievements, FIFA each year features a rich and varied lineup of films. Of the 45 films entered in this year’s contest, 10 are Canadian and 7 are from Québec. The impressive 2009 program lineup includes participation by Louis Lortie, Pierre Lapointe and Jean-Claude Labrecque; the latter will be on hand to pay a vibrant tribute to the great Félix Leclerc.
Montréal each year welcomes some 7.5 million tourists who spend about $2.5 billion during events and festivals such as FIFA.
