Montréal ranks third on Lonely Planet’s “Best Summer Cities” list

Montréal, July 6, 2011 – Following an online survey of Lonely Planet readers, Facebook fans and Twitter followers,Montréal ranks third among the “Best Summer Cities” in the world, just behind Barcelona and Sydney. Other prominent cities listed in the Lonely Planet’s blog article posted on June 22 include London, Chicago, Stockholm, Edinburgh, Berlin, Amsterdam, New York, and Lisbon.

“This is indeed a wonderful acknowledgement to receive from international travellers,” expressed the Honourable Charles Lapointe, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal, upon learning of the news. “This result reflects what we hear about Montréal when travelling elsewhere, that is, that Montréal is a summer city beyond compare,” he added.

Montréal welcomes some 7.5 million tourists each year, and while the majority of which, at 32.1%, visit during the summer, the city remains a popular destination year round: 20.1% come in winter, 24.8% in spring, and 23% in autumn.
