President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal, Charles Lapointe, first recipient of the Prix Grand Ambassadeur, awarded by the Palais des congrès de Montréal

Montréal, March 20, 2008 – The Ambassadors’ Club of the Palais des congrès de Montréal yesterday presented the Prix Grand Ambassadeur to the President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal, Charles Lapointe, who becomes the first recipient of this award. This honour, which recognizes the excellent work of an Ambassador in promoting Montréal as a convention city, was given to him during the Recognition Award Gala, an evening celebrating the 25th anniversary  of the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

“On behalf of Tourisme Montréal, I am extremely proud and touched to receive this prestigious award,” said Mr. Lapointe. “This is the result of a close collaboration with talented partners whose sustained efforts have elevated Montréal to one of the most desirable convention destinations among business people from all backgrounds. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Palais des congrès de Montréal, not only for the great honour that I am receiving today, but also for its invaluable cooperation, which has enabled Montréal to become a meeting hub that is admired and known throughout the world. Lastly, I would like to mention the excellent work of the entire Tourisme Montréal team, whose dedication has allowed Montréal to place second among North American cities in the number of international conventions held.”

Since its founding in 1985, the Ambassadors’ Club of the Palais des congrès has welcomed over 200 public figures, named Ambassadors by Appointment, who were instrumental in bringing a world-class event to the Palais des congrès de Montréal. The expertise of these Ambassadors by Appointment contributes greatly to increasing awareness about the Palais, particularly among convention organizers, as well as enhancing Montréal’s reputation on the international conference scene.
