Montréal, May 31, 2008 – Tourisme Montréal is pleased to announce that it will contribute $500,000 to revamping the Grand Prix du Canada F1 facilities at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. The investment is part of a vast $4.5M modernization project which includes the construction of new paddocks as well as the redesign of the press room at the Olympic Basin.
The planned expansion of the press room will enable the event to welcome the hundreds of local and foreign journalists who cover this prestigious race each year.
“At a time when competition is fierce and more money than ever is being invested in events around the globe, we need to support our own world-class events so that they maintain their leading edge,” said John Dunn, Executive Vice-President of Tourisme Montréal.
Tourisme Montréal would like to thank its many partners who have helped make this contribution possible; that is, the Association des hôtels du grand Montréal, the Hotel and Restaurant Suppliers Association, Aéroports de Montréal and Destination centre-ville.
The Grand Prix du Canada F1 is the country’s most important tourism event, generating $100M in economic spin-offs for the Montréal economy each year.
