Montréal, November 8, 2011 – After ranking 3rd among the “Best Summer Cities in the World” in Lonely Planet last July,Montréal has won the “Best Global Destination” title in the NewNowNext Awards, beating out Tokyo (Japan), Marrakesh (Morocco), Corsica (France), London (England), and Shanghai (China). Organized by TripOut Travel, the awards recognize the trendiest, hottest, and most exciting destinations in the world.
A jury comprised of journalists, editors (Condé Nast Traveler, Travel & Leisure, Lonely Planet, etc.), and tourist professionals determined the best cities in the world according to their assets as LGBT travel destinations. First place was then awarded to the destination with the most public votes.
“Tourisme Montréal, its members and partners continually aim to position Montréal as an urban, friendly, lively, creative and welcoming destination. This award from TripOut Travel proves that the efforts invested are paying off,” states the Honourable Charles Lapointe, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal. “We are thrilled to have won this award thanks to votes from the public, as this confirms that a growing number of travellers recognize Montréal’s many charms,” he adds.
