January 19, 2012 – There’s only one of its kind in North America. A festival that shines the spotlight on arts—painting, architecture, dance, sculpture, theatre, mime, comics, tattooing and more—by capturing the creative process and product on film. It’s the 30th edition of the International Festival international du film sur l’art (FIFA). And it only happens here.

From March 15 to 25, 2012, art lovers and culture vultures alike can indulge in over 250 films on art submitted by filmmakers from 30 countries around the globe. Art about art – how can you beat it? It’s an excellent way to get a behind-the-scenes peek at creative minds from far and wide, from one century to the next, well-known or obscure.

Festival events are held in nothing less than the city’s most prestigious cultural institutions, including the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, the Grande Bibliothèque (Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec), the Canadian Centre for Architecture, the Cinémathèque québécoise, the Gœthe-Institut, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the NFB Cinema and Place des Arts.

There is also an official and prestigious competition presided by prominent international judges and juries, which springboards prizewinning films to the international circuit that extends from the Louvre in Paris to the National Gallery of Art in Washington to the Musée national des beaux-arts in Québec and beyond. So for 10 days, we invite you to get an eyeful and a mind-full of some of the most compelling stories out there.
